For example, published manufacturer warranties can distinguish insulating-glass defects from laminated-glass coverage, stress cracks, hardware, and labor. Often these are service parts, but the correct part still matters.
For an operable impact window, hardware helps the unit close, latch, and function as designed. Using an improvised part or drilling new holes into the frame can create problems beyond everyday operation.

A Florida Product Approval describes an approved product, configuration, materials, installation conditions, and limitations. A service repair should stay consistent with the product’s manufacturer instructions and applicable approved configuration.
Do not assume that a field modification automatically becomes part of the approval just because the original frame has a Florida approval number.
Florida law requires products marketed as hurricane, windstorm, or windborne-debris impact protection to have the required approval. If a proposed repair materially changes glass, framing, anchorage, or other tested components, ask for documentation showing why that repair method is appropriate.

Should you use aftermarket window film to “repair” damaged impact glass?
